About the Position:

The Marketing and Merchandising Sourcing Manager is responsible for developing, sourcing, negotiating, and executing sourcing strategies that align with the organization’s marketing and merchandising goals. This role ensures timely and cost-effective negotiations, contracting & purchasing of Marketing and Merchandising goods and services related to support our grocery retail business.

 

This role will report to the Director of Indirect Purchasing.

What You'll Do:

Sourcing & Vendor Management:

  • Identify and evaluate new and existing suppliers for marketing and merchandising goods and services.
  • Lead the strategic sourcing of the marketing and merchandising functional areas including running RFx (RFI’s, RFP’s, & RFQ’s) to support key business initiatives.  
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, service level agreements, and delivery terms with suppliers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to quality standards.
  • Quarterback contracts through the review-to-signature process.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to secure the best products and services and ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and innovation.
  • Monitor and assess supplier performance to ensure timely delivery and quality compliance.
  • Continuously assess market trends, new suppliers, and alternate sourcing opportunities.

Marketing & Merchandising Strategy Support:

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to understand strategies, brand guidelines, and consumer trends to ensure sourcing aligns with goals and objectives.
  • Work with the merchandising team to plan and execute in-store displays and promotional activities that attract customers and boost sales.
  • Provide input and recommendations on Sourcing tactics based on product availability, seasonality, and consumer preferences.

Vendor Relationship Management: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and service providers.
  • Monitor vendor performance, ensuring adherence to contractual terms and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Resolve any disputes or issues that arise between the organization and service providers.
  • Assess and manage risks associated with vendor partnerships.

Cost Management:

  • Drive cost efficiencies through strategic sourcing initiatives and vendor consolidation.
  • Track and report on marketing sourcing savings, cost avoidance, and ROI.
  • Conduct spend analysis and identify opportunities for value engineering.

Development & Innovation:

  • Help to implement and maintain a new Contract Lifecycle Management System.
  • Assist in the creation and sourcing of new and innovative products for goods and services
  • Stay informed of emerging trends in the grocery industry and incorporate those into sourcing strategies to enhance customer experience.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with the sales, marketing, operations, and product development teams to ensure alignment and the seamless execution of sourcing initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on timelines, specifications, and delivery requirements.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on sourcing performance, providing insights on cost savings/avoidance, ROI, product performance, and future opportunities.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of vendors to determine the success of sourced materials and optimize future initiatives.

Operational Excellence:

  • Monitor vendor performance using KPIs (on-time delivery, quality, cost savings, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain sourcing documentation, including RFPs, contracts, and procurement records.

Qualifications:

At a minimum, what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, procurement, or related field (MBA or similar preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sourcing or procurement, with experience in sourcing marketing in the grocery or retail industry.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage vendor relationships.
  • Familiarity with sourcing tools, procurement software, and contract management systems (e.g., Coupa, SAP, Oracle, Ariba).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with strategic sourcing in multi-location grocery operations or food retail industry.
  • Certification in procurement (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) or project management (e.g., PMP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other related software. Coupa and CLM tools a plus. 
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools and e-commerce platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of the grocery industry, including key suppliers and service providers.
